October is National Disability Awareness Month.  October is also White Cane Month.  Each year, October is dedicated to reminding and educating the public about the white cane, used by blind, and visually impaired for independence and mobility.  So, what better place for us to hold our October meeting then at the Olmsted Center for Sight?  The Olmsted Center for Sight (OCS), like the white cane, helps individuals with visual impairments, as well as those with other physical challenges, achieve their highest levels of independence.

In support of creating awareness from a workplace learning perspective, please join fellow NF-ASTD colleagues and guests for our October program which will feature our host, the Olmsted Center for Sight.

Since 1907, the OCS has been a leader in quality human services for individuals who are blind or visually impaired.  Located downtown at the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, the OCS offers many services to the blind, visually and physically impaired population throughout the Buffalo Niagara region.

During this program, the team from the Olmsted Center for Sight will provide an overview of the training programs and services they offer, including those devoted to training in hospitality employment and customer service across multiple industries.  This program will include a tour of their facilities and classrooms, as well as an adaptive technology demonstration.

For more information on the multiple training programs and services that the OCS provides both locally and nationally, please visit

**Program attendance supports development in the following learning and performance competencies and areas of expertise, as outlined by the ASTD Competency Model: Business/Management, Designing Learning and Delivering Training.
